Join the award-winning team at Silvan Safari, a world-renowned Relais & Châteaux lodge in the iconic Sabi Sands Game Reserve. We’re seeking an experienced and passionate Head Guide to deliver immersive safari experiences that blend luxury with the thrill of the wild.
This is more than guiding – it’s about storytelling, inspiring wonder, and capturing moments that live beyond the game drive.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Provide tailored safari drives aligned with guest preferences while ensuring full compliance with safety protocols, effective coordination with trackers (including dietary needs), and incorporating educational and conservation messaging to enrich the overall guest experience.
- Provide guests with guidance and support in using photographic equipment and collaborate with the marketing team to create high-quality content for social media and blogs.
- Ensure all safari vehicles and equipment are clean, fully operational, and properly prepared for guest drives through daily checks, coordination with trackers, and prompt reporting of maintenance or repair needs.
- Maintain accurate inventory and stock levels and assist with monthly departmental stock takes.
WHO YOU ARE:
- FGASA-certified guide with solid experience in 5-star lodges
- Passionate about wildlife, guest interaction, and photographic storytelling
- Skilled in vehicle and equipment care, safety protocols, and delivering luxury service
- A collaborative team player with an eye for detail and an instinct for excellence
REQUIREMENTS:
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12 / Matric)
- FGASA Level 2 or higher Nature Site Guide
- FGASA Trails Guide
- Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH)
- Valid First Aid Certification
- Valid Professional Driver’s Permit (PrDP)
- DEAT registered (Mpumalanga)
- 3–5 years’ experience as a Senior Guide at a 5-star luxury lodge
- Relevant experience in overseeing guide and tracker teams
- Additional Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in digital photography and post-processing
- Proficient in 4x4 off-road driving techniques
- Strong knowledge of astronomy and birdlife
- Basic vehicle maintenance and mechanical understanding
- Practical experience in emergency First Aid response
Not essential but advantageous:
- Deep understanding of conservation
- Expert communicator
- Custodian of ethical guiding
- Advanced photographic interpretation and guidance
- Complete understanding of wildlife behaviour
- The ability to comfortably master Storytelling
